The Kafue National Park is 22 500 sq km, one of the largest National Parks in Africa. The Kafue River winds through the park entering in the north-eastern corner and is joined by the Lufupa and the Lunga rivers which are the three main veins that bring life into the Kafue National Park. In the extreme north of the Kafue lie the Busanga Plains – one of Zambia’s most significant wetland resources and one of the few areas in the world that remain untouched by development and human activity.
Mukambi lodges is located centrally in the Kafue National Park, a comfortable 3-hour drive from the capital Lusaka. All facilities overlook the Kafue River
Busanga Plains Camp is a seasonal bush camp of Mukambi, located deep in the heart of the Busanga Plains, a stunning wetland area and is home to ubiquitous puku, stately roan and the diminutive oribi. Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This wealth of game is also a big attraction for predators, including wild dog, cheetah and prides of lion. The thick riverine vegetation along the Kafue and Lufupa rivers brings fantastic diversity to one’s experience of the Kafue National park
The Luangwa Valley
Track & Trail River Camp is a privately owned lodge offering 8.5.ha of unforgettable sunrises and panoramic views of the Luangwa River in an area of unspoiled wilderness.
Situated only a five minutes drive from the main entrance of the South Luangwa National Park, the lodge offers a unique natural experience. In both areas a number of game activates a daily routine. Morning and evening drives in open game viewers. Walking safaris and village tours on request. The main lodges Mukambi and T&T have a pool and a sundeck.
Arrival of international flight at Lusaka Airport. Road transfer from Lusaka airport to Mukambi Safari Lodge (3 hours) – depending on the time of arrival, you can join an evening safari or a sundowner cruise on the stunning Kafue River.
Day 2- 4:
Just after breakfast you will be transferred to the Busanga plains. This can be considered as a long gamedrive, of approximately 5 hours, through the National Park going North/ West. Busanga tented camp is located in open area and is good habitat for a number of predators, among others, the cheetah. The guide will discuss the safari program with you for the next 3 days in the Busanga area. Morning and evening drives are done on a daily basis and a guided walk can be made on request. For the next 6 nights you will stay at Busanga, an isolated and tastefully designed bushcamp, superb cuisine and personalised service.
Kafue National Park
On the fifth day the driver will take you to the Mukambi Wildlife area, with a different vegetation and different species of animals. You will stay at Mukambi lodge in luxury and fully furnished chalets with ensuite bathroom. From the veranda you will be able to take in the beauty of the Kafue River and watch the wild animals around you. All activities take place according to a ‘fixed time schedule’. You can ask the manager of Mukambi about your preferences with regard to the daily activities.
After some enjoyable days in the bush of one of the largest parks in Africa, it is time for your next adventure. You will be driven to Lusaka airport to catch your flight to Mfuwe. After a short flight of one hour, you will arrive at the airport of Mfuwe, where a driver will pick you up. It will take up to 40 minutes to arrive at Track and Trail River Camp, where somebody will welcome you with a refreshing drink. Your accommodation at this camp can either be a classic luxury safari tent or a chalet, both with ensuite bathroom. Elephants and hippos are daily visitors to Track and Trail, so you will also experience the real Africa in South Luangwa. This park is famous for its high population of leopards. The guides of South Luangwa are extremely bush wise and will do their utmost to please your personal interests. Track and Trail has a beautifully designed pool of 2.5 meters high on the riverbank. Nice to cool down and get a suntan around midday. You can join activities like: game(night)-drives, bush walks, village tour to meet the locals. The manager is a qualified aromatherapist who can pamper body and soul in bush style.
Track and Trail is situated 5 minutes away from the main gate of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, overlooking the Luangwa River. The lodge has 4 comfortable en-suite thatched chalets and 5 rustic en-suite safari tents, each with a private balcony/veranda that overlooks the Luangwa River, that attracts abundant wildlife and game from the African bush. Each chalet/tent has electricity and is equipped with a fan, tea and coffee making facilities, mosquito nets.
Meals are served from the Lime tree restaurant. Day and evening time safaris (+/- 4 hours) are offered on a daily basis , or those more adventurous at heart can take the exciting option of a walking safari to view or track animals on foot with armed scout for safety. Track and Trail River Camp is one of the few places in the South Luangwa National Park that stays open during the Green Season. Depending on the departure time of your flight to Lusaka, a game activity can take place in the morning. Road transfer from T&T to Mfuwe airport for scheduled flight to Lusaka
