| Track & Trail River Camp biedt aan haar gasten alles wat ze kunnen wensen. De gastvrijheid die Kirsten Gottenkieny biedt is ongevenaard, het personeel is zeer behulpzaam en vriendelijk. Het eten is uitermate goed, de lodges voorzien in al je behoeften en liggen prachtig aan de rivier. Een safari in het South Luangwa National Park is een ervaring die uitstijgt boven alle andere parken die wij in Afrika al hebben bezocht. Een van de laatste plekken op aarde waar een safari nog echt een safari is. Een bezoek aan Kirsten en haar Track & Trail is meer dan de moeite waard. Laat alle Amerikanen en Japanners maar naar Kenia en Tanzania gaan, dan hebben wij het in ZAmbia vooralsnog lekker rustig en niet het gevoel toerist te zijn. | After my working period of 3 months in Zambia's Southern Provinces, I was looking for a remote but friendly and experienced camp with a personal touch. In Track and Trail these preferences came together. Beautifully situated on the riverbank of the Luangwa and with plenty of wildlife around you, a Mosi (or watherever drink you prefer) has never tasted better. The guides have personal interest in the guests and they will keep your personal interests in mind while driving the national park. The South Luangwa National Park is a relief. Few visitors, nature untouched by man and impressive animals, birds and trees. A walking safari is a must-do and the night drives are unique experiences. I will certainly come back to enjoy the luangwa valley to visit the National Park and to enjoy a drink (or more) with its very pleasant owners Peter and Kirsten, the guides and my friend Tom. Na drie weken te hebben rondgetrokken door Botswana hebben we vijf nachten in Track and Trail River camp doorgebracht. Aan de ene kant om nu eindelijk Track and Trail eens zelf te zien en aan de andere kant voor een lekkere afsluiting van onze vakantie in Botswana. Ook was het voor ons een hernieuwde kennismaking met South Luangwa NP. Het is ons bijzonder goed bevallen. De comfortabele chalets, het fantastische eten en de rustige en gemoedelijke atmosfeer waren een perfecte aanvulling op onze mooie reis door Botswana. Daarmee wil ik South Luangwa NP niets te kort doen. Dit nationale park heeft volledig waargemaakt wat ik eigenlijk al wist. Het is voor mij een top drie park. Zoals je weet hebben Ellen en ik al heel wat parken en reservaten in Afrika gezien en is het lastig om het ene park boven het andere park te plaatsen. Toch durf ik dat met South Luangwa aan. De prachtige lagunes, de diversiteit aan landschappen, de verscheidenheid aan dieren en het ultieme safarigevoel worden hier bewaarheid. Samen met de prachtige ligging en de al eerder genoemde sterke punten van Track and Trail is dit een perfecte basis voor een zeer aangenaam verblijf in het mooiste park van Zambia. De game drives die we onder begeleiding van Derick gemaakt hebben waren ook voor ons weer leerzaam. Met Derick als perfecte gids hebben we onze kennis over South Luangwa weer op kunnen frissen en nog beter leren kennen. Met mijn enthousiasme over Track and Trail en over South Luangwa hoop ik dan ook klanten via Going Africa Safaris net zo enthousiast te kunnen maken. Hallo Kirsten, Ons verblijf in Track & Trail River Camp mag dan al weer een 7 weken geleden zijn, vergeten zijn wij het niet. Natuurlijk lag dat aan al het wild dat we zagen: stoer of gracieus, altijd ontroerend, respect afdwingend en je een oergevoel gevend. Maar het lag ook aan: de sfeer en locatie van het kamp. Het vanaf jullie plek over de rivier uitkijken roept een spannende rust bij je op, evenwichtig ook, zoiets van ‘hier pas ik, hier zit ik op de goede plek’. De niet poehasfeer van het kamp doet de rest: eenvoudige maar oh zo gerieflijke chalets, geruisloze niet opdringerige warme gastvrijheid en niks van glimmende Santa Fé bars, uitgestalde ‘open buffetten’ e.d. Het is een echt camp gebleven, okay, logisch, wat groter dan je het voor je zelf zou maken maar nog volledig in de omgeving passend. De stap naar het ‘oergevoel’ is er veel gemakkelijker te maken dan in die veel luxer andere camps. en natuurlijk jullie team, Mr. Frog voorop. Houden die man! Een man die als het ware aan de hand van zijn over-over-grootvader al de bush in ging en zo zijn kennis en liefde van en voor zijn omgeving in zich opzoog. En bovendien, die kennis en liefde aan zijn gasten weet over te brengen! Een waar feest om met hem op walking (talking) safari te gaan. Kleine Godfrey lijkt mij trouwens een hele goede assistent te worden. Verder natuurlijk jullie keukenteam. Stuk voor stuk prima mensen, die je heerlijke maaltijden voorschotelen (let op, zorg altijd voor een alternatief voor varkensvlees!). We weten wie achter het vaststellen van het dagelijkse menu zit, maar gerand Philimon (?) leert al aardig een schotel aan te prijzen alsof hij hemzelf bedacht heeft. En last but not least jullie technische en huishoudelijke mensen, op de achtergrond. De kleinschaligheid (een echt pluspunt!) en de persoonlijke benadering doen de rest! Met andere woorden: Track & Trail River Camp is een camp in de middenprijsklasse - naast al die dure Rockefeller lodges per definitie een enorme aanwinst! – met, voor mensen die in ieder geval het gevoel willen krijgen in de bush te kamperen, topprijsklasse kwaliteiten. Mocht je in Nederland, naast je zakelijk partner, nog behoefte hebben aan een adres, waar potentiële gasten info kunnen krijgen van “mensen die er geweest zijn”, laat het weten. Dear Kirsten and T&T members Sunday I came back to Milan, the holidays ended, back to work!!! I am not sad because I have bright memories about Africa, South Luangwa, T & T Camp and about you. it is not easy to express how well I have been over there and how careful is your hospitality that make people feeling at home It would be much easy to remember the nice chalet, the food and all the persons I met there ( especially the "big" Godfrey ) not to forget to mention the beautiful location, the sounds the colours, our day and night "visitors", Mosi and Moona ( correct?) but I would rather thank you for all that and for let me get to know you. You are beautiful and a wonderful person and I’ve had a great time at Track and Trail. I’m happy to have met you and I hope we will keep in touch, I would like to hear from you whenever you want and I will see you soon somewhere here in Europe or Zambia again. An extraordinary morning The leopard is there!! The puku's are all staring there, look!! Godfrey, the guide, was sure that we would found the mother leopard we just glimpsed during the night drive the day before and that our sighting would have been far better in the early morning when the animal is relaxed and easygoing. He was absolutely right. We moved along the road following the puku’s stare and first we saw a glimpse of spotted fur and then the mother appeared and crossed the road and allowed us to have a very close look at her. The most extraordinary thing happened next; two cubs followed the mother on the road. I was taking pictures continuously with both my camera’s the digital with the big zoom, the reflex with 70-210 first b/n and then slide but from time to time I stopped shooting just to watch the animal; a couple of times I had to interrupt the shooting because my eyes were misty. The feeling of witnessing something so extraordinary was overwhelming. In the park I had already seen leopards, even the same one but this time the situation was so good, soft light all around, nobody else around, the leopard and its cubs in a very calm, almost serene mood. We could observe the leopard for a good amount of time (almost half an hour) then another car arrived when the mother was retreating in the thick of the bush. I knew that South Luangwa is one of the best places in the world to spot leopard but I would never believe that I could have such an amazing experience. The merit is of Godfrey, the guide working with Kirsten of Track and Trail; I went out in the park with him for two full days and many other different game drives and I could profit of its huge experience accumulated as member of Zawa (park service), member of the crew that assisted some of the most famous animal researcher and professional guides. He's very good in pointing out big and small things from the lions (Godfrey is rightly proud of his record of finding lions almost in every game drive) to the birds; he speaks some Italian and he is also a dj in his club Mr. Frog in Mfuwe!! A guy with a lot of skills. Just a few words about Track & Trail. After writing to different lodges and camping I choose Track & Trail because I liked the way Peter and Kirsten answered back and the fact they looked more photography oriented than other establishments. After a wonderful week I am very satisfied of my choice: Kirsten and her staff offer an outstanding service through an effective mix of Dutch efficiency and Zambian warmed and sense of hospitability. Dear Kirsten I can express may stay with you it only in a few words, exiting and relaxed at the same time. We have had incredible sightings the last few days, Leopards, Lions plenty of elephant and buffalo. It was amazing to see giraf just when we left Track and Trail. Also all the elephants in and around your camp were impressive. If I could I would go back straight away. I really envy your lifestyle! I like the food Jackson made very much. Next time I’m thinking of spending more time in the bush as 5 nights is not enough…every day is a new and exiting day in South Luangwa full off different surprises. Hope to see and meet you again. | ||

Dutch chef Robert produces the most miraculous meals in the middle of the bush, presented with a flair which would not disgrace a top London restuarant. And thoughout a friendly, happy collaborative air between us and all the the staff, who became friends. Kenny, the resident guide, was incredibly knowlegeable, and our gang of four kids adored his tales of the bush. The all-in rate, inclusive of game drives, airport collection, all food (everything except drinks) made us feel like we were spending time with old friends rather than running up a tab in a hotel. A taste of proper Africa, right down to the elephants in the camp.... | ||

Thank you so much The week at track and trail was fantastic and I am missing it already you all both the people, the place and even the elephants. I ll leave chipata tomorrow to lusaka and then lower zambesi< I changed my mind about mutinondo since is too far away. Anyway I'm definetely coming back to zambia again!! Die letzten 17 Tage unserer Selbstfahrer-Ferien in Sambia haben wir im Track&Trail River Camp und South Luangwa N.P. verbringen können. Herrliche Natur, super Game Viewing für tolle Fotos und eine ausgezeichnete Unterkunft und Verpflegung. Das gesamte Track&Trail River Camp Team war sehr zuvorkommend und stets hilfsbereit für alle Belange des Wohlergehens. Wir konnten abends beim Essen oder an der gemütlichen Bar sehr viel Erfahrungen über Fotografieren, Tiere, Land und Leute austauschen. Alles in Allem...
