Day 5-6-7:

South Luangwa (Chikunto Luxury tented camp)

Chikunto Camp is an intimate refuge of comfort and tranquility. Each stylish chalet features stand fan and ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet. The chalets stand high on stilts overlooking the sandbanks of the Luangwa. At Chikunto you will have the opportunity to participate in the African adventure of a lifetime, at a luxurious standard of comfort and service, unexpected in the bush. Overlooking the wide open sandbanks in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, the lodge provides the visitor with a special glimpse of Africa as it used to be – untouched, unspoilt and unforgettable. With no fences surrounding the lodge, wildlife is free to move unhindered, under the walkways. Elephants, Lions, leopard, hippos and small antelope such as bushbuck and puku, are frequently seen in camp. On a daily basis, morning and evening drives are organized. Walking safaris are always accompanied by a professional guide and armed scout.

Day 8-9-10-11:

Transfer by road, crossing the border into Malawi.  In Lilongwe you will have a stop over at Kiboko town hotel for 1 night, based on B&B. The next morning after breakfast your transfer will continue to Monkey Bay in Malawi (3-4 hours), boat transfer to Mumbo (1 hour), your home for the next 3 nights. The tiny island camp, with capacity for only fourteen guests, features tastefully furnished tents with shaded decks, hammocks, hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’. A dining area, with bar, a lovely lounge under the baobab tree and a watersport gazebo complete camp infrastructure. Mumbo became the first fresh-water marine reserve to be proclaimed on earth. Lake Malawi contains the largest number of fish species of any lake in the world, probably well over five hundred, with perhaps half occurring in the National Park area. This makes snorkeling and diving an absolute must. Other activities are sunset cruises, island walks and kayaking. But, of course, spending some lazy hours on the private beach or from the hammock of your private veranda belongs to the possibilities as well. The whole camp is built of timber, thatch and canvas, and is perched on high rocks overlooking the water, blending with the African bush to create a ‘Robinson Crusoe’ atmosphere of rustic charm. The whole island falls within an exclusive concession, guaranteeing privacy in paradise. Mumbo Island Camp ranks amongst the finest in Malawi, and is a member of the prestigious Wilderness Safaris Portfolio.

The Island

Mumbo Island is a pristine and deserted tropical island and the undisputed jewel of the Lake Malawi National Park. Mumbo Island has never been populated, and is still in its natural state with a thick covering of miombo woodland, ancient fig and baobab trees.

Day 11: Lilongwe Transfer by light aircraft to Lilongwe connecting your international flight.
