The lions had been resting under a bush, guarding their hard-earned buffalo carcass, when a herd of elephants wandered into the area. It didn’t take long for the elephants to catch wind of the predators—and chaos followed. With a thunderous charge, the lions scattered from their shady spot in a flash of dust and tension.⁠
⁠
But hunger has a pull of its own. Moments later, the lions began creeping back toward their prize. One younger lion, caught between caution and comfort, chose the perfect time for a loo break—never once taking his eyes off the grumpy elephants in the distance.⁠

It all started with a peaceful evening drive, gazing out over a seemingly empty stretch of short green grass and low bushes. Not a sign of movement. Then, two startled impalas darted into view… and just like that, seven wild dogs emerged as if from nowhere!⁠
⁠
The chase was brief, and the impalas got away — but what followed was just as special. We sat quietly as the dogs regrouped, stretched out in the golden light, yawned, and slowly prepared for the evening hunt ahead.⁠

A wild scene in the making…

We arrived to find lions, elephants and vultures — all in one dramatic frame. With the lions still sleeping on a buffalo carcass, we sat quietly, watching the tension rise. It wasn’t long before the herd made their move, charging in to defend their own.

The lions growled and ran, but the dominant male was the first to race back and reclaim his prize. Nature’s drama, raw and real. #Trackandtrailrivercamp #southluangwa #discoverzambia #elephants #lions @karen_lowe_photography

The day began with golden light and peaceful sight

The day began with golden light and peaceful sightings—giraffes strolling, birds calling, and a cool morning breeze. But things quickly turned wild when vultures began to circle overhead… Leading us to two lions, one adult male and a younger companion, resting beside their hard-earned prize—a freshly caught buffalo. The dominant male wasn’t keen on sharing, clutching the carcass possessively, even falling asleep spooning it in his paws.

We went back in the afternoon and found the pair now more awake and facing a herd of elephants, while a number of vultures watched from the trees. These photos to come ….
