This trip is one big game drive in untouched wilderness, with spectacular wildlife and superb safaris.
Track and Trail River Camp, South Luangwa National Park – 4 nights
Your adventure starts in South Luangwa, our guide will welcome you at Mfuwe airport and take you in 35 minutes to Track and Trail River Camp, where you will spend the first 4 nights of your Luangwa Valley adventure.
After a refreshing welcome drink we take you to your comfortable accommodation. The chalet offers king and/or twin beds, large mosquito nets and a safe/lock box. There are tea/coffee making facilities and a private veranda or balcony from were you can enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. The camp is truly wild and animals roam around freely. Elephant, Hippo’ and bushbucks are some of the animals frequently seen in camp.
If you arrive late afternoon we will serve a delicious 3-course dinner, your first game drive will start early the next morning. After a light breakfast we will leave camp at 06.00hrs to enter the South Luangwa National Park famous for its diverse landscapes and abundance of wildlife including the elusive leopard.
Game drives at Track and Trail River Camp are conducted in open 4×4 safari vehicles, which ensure you are at one with nature while offering the best possible view of all that is around you. With 2 safari drives daily, early morning to catch the early morning light and animals in action, and at 15.30 we take you out again to watch the Luangwa sunset before darkness falls and you will start searching for nocturnal animals like lion, leopard, hyena, mongoose, owls, civet, bush baby and genet using a spotlight. Each safari lasts about 4 hours. You will be accompanied by our very knowledgeable guides, who are there to answer your questions, and position the vehicle for the best possible photo shots.
On the fifth day you will start traveling to the North, through the Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa National Park, which is a unique area for seeing huge herds of buffalo, big prides of lions and on a regular basis, wilddogs.
Day 5-6 and 7
Zikomo Safari Camp, Nsefu sector, South Luangwa National Park
After saying goodbye we will take you on a scenic and adventurous transfer through rural Zambia to reach Zikomo Safari Camp. During this one hour transfer, you will see wildlife, different landscapes and traditional villages along the bush roads.. Spend 3 nights at Zikomo Safari Camp an intimate camp in a remote part of South Luangwa, located on the banks of the Luangwa River where Carmine Bee Eaters make their nests in the cliffs along its banks.
The Camp is Shaded by a canopy of mahogany, winterthorn and other huge shady trees filled with birds from the 450 species that call Luangwa home..
On a daily base, morning drives or walks and evening drives are organized. The main activity in this park is the legendary walking safari. Walking safaris are always accompanied by a professional guide and an armed escort scout for safety reasons.
At Zikomo Safari Camp your accommodation has a queen size or twin bed, with large mosquito nets and a private veranda.
Day 8- 9 and 10 Luambe Camp, Luambe National Park – 3 nights
Another adventurous transfer by road through small villages and remote areas will take you to Luambe National Park, halfway between South and North Luangwa. You will stay in a safari tent overlooking the Luangwa river with enormous pods of hundreds of Hippo’s in front of the camp. These Hippo pods are among the largest in Africa. The spacious tents offer all necessary comforts and have ensuite bathrooms with hot showers.
Go out on early morning walks or drives and evening safaris. You are less likely to see the same abundance of wildlife as the previous days but the experience is truly one of a kind. Luambe National Park is very remote and on top of that Luambe camp is the only camp in the park. And with only 4 safari tents, you have the entire National Park almost to yourself.
Day 11 – 12 and 13 Luangwa North Camp, North Luangwa National Park – 3 nights
On day 11, it is time to explore the untamed bush of Zambia in the North Luangwa National Park. The trip will continue by road and the scenic surrounding are an unforgettable experience. After the 4-hour trip, you will arrive at Luangwa North Camp, an intimate camp with only 4 raised chalets that blend seamlessly with the surroundings. Enjoy tranquility from your elevated veranda, offering stunning views of breathtaking sunsets and animal sightings along the Luangwa river.
From the restaurant you can enjoy a candlelit dinner, on the background the magical sounds of the African nights as they come to life.
The area is rich in wildlife diversity! Daily activities are game drives and walking safaris and leopard and wilddogs are seen on a regular basis. The Rhino sanctuary can be visited on request.
Day 14:
On day 14 a 45 minutes flight will take you back to Mfuwe airport were your trip ends. Here you can connect to your outgoing flight.
